RESUMO

Using the Doppler, we have studied the venous pressure, with the patients standing, of 6,172 legs. In a normal subject, the index of average pressure is 59 mmHg in the posterior tibial vein, and 58 mmHg in the long saphenous vein. Where there are varicose veins, the average pressure is 90 and 96 mmHg in the deep veins and in the superficial veins. In the case of post-phlebitic syndrome, the average index is 101 and 102 mmHg in the deep and superficial veins. In this work, the credibility of the method is discussed, and in particular, in comparison with the surgical methods, and its usefulness in current phlebological practice is defined.

RESUMO

Measurement of venous pressure by means of the Doppler method applied to the posterior tibial vein and to the internal and external saphenous veins is subject to error which depends on the observer's technique. We have therefore sought to ascertain whether and how differences in measurement techniques could affect the results of venous pressure determination in 50 subjects. We have observed that: --Measured pressure are higher when the duration of the test is prolonged, probably because the cuff remains inflated too long. --Of several consecutive determinations, the first and second yield generally higher values, that decrease and remain stable thereafter through the 5th measurement, following the initial loss of venous tone. --Venous pressure is lower as the measurement site is moved more proximally, as predicted by the expected pressure gradient along the venous circulation; the decrease could also be affected by local changes of vein compliance.

RESUMO

Taking into consideration a previous work, where we experimented the pharmacological action of different products of nitrite retard and from which resulted the absolute superiority of isosorbide dinitrate, we considered interesting to repeat the experimentation with a new form of isosorbide dinitrate characterized by an action duration more prolonged in the time owing to the particular freeing of the active principle. In 20 patients free from peripheral vasculopathy it was enregistered the rheogram with derivation back-feet-big toe in base condition and at 1st, 3rd, 5th and 10th hour from the administration of Nitrosorbide Retard 20 mg. The product action, put in evidence by the appearance of the typical pulse by nitrite, begins the first hour, it reaches the maximum at the 5th hour on average and it clearly lasts until the 10th hour. Therefore it is demonstrated the practical usefulness of this product in the daily clinical medicine considered its characteristics of action rapidity, duration and steadfastness.

RESUMO

The investigation carried out on a group of 1221 students (aged 13-19) of an Italian secondary school shows (19.6%) prevalence of high blood pressure. The prevalence was calculated assuming as hypertensive people with blood pressure higher than an arbitrary limit of 140/90 mmHg. The means, standard deviations and 95th percentiles for systolic and diastolic pressure for each age and sex were also calculated. In a follow up of 6 months the percentage of students with BP > 140/90 mmHg decreased from 6.5% to 3.5%. Statistical analysis of 19 items of a questionnaire distributed to be filled to the students shows interesting correlations between BP values, hypertension in relatives and obesity.
